Being Healthy

Image
According to the English Oxford Dictionary, being healthy means having good  health  and not likely to become sick. But in recent times we use the word ’Healthy’ as a polite way of referring to someone as ‘fat’ or ‘obese’. But doesn’t something seem off? The meaning in the dictionary is different from the way we use the word now. If you call a person healthy, should they be offended because you are calling them fat or should they be happy that you think they have a lesser chance of getting sick? Don’t you think this comes from the ideology of the ‘perfect body type’, or maybe the people with the ‘perfect body type’ might not be as healthy as the others are? We all know that the healthy body type for everyone is different. What maybe healthy for one might not be healthy for another. Last week I asked my mother if I was born underweight, healthy or overweight. She spent a whole hour explaining to me that I was born healthy but not overweight. It means the same t...

RESPECT IS NOT A WANT IT IS A NEED

Image
We often see people around us being disrespected and contempted. As if it is a part of daily routine - Wake up in the morning, get ready, go out for work, get disrespected, come back home, cry feel worthless and sleep it off. If a person would go to another person saying I was disrespected, most of the people will react in a way that it is normal, like it is not at all a problem. But that is not the case, once a person is disrespected and is not able to stand up for their-self or anyone else does not stand for them, they become an easy target for other people.  Everyone talks about how important it is to take care of our body but not many people talk about our mind. If a person gets physically hurt, people apply medicines, got to doctor, but what about mental bruises? Rarely people go to psychologists as if it is a crime to be mentally disturbed, and even if it is, the people who contempt others to a level that they  get disturbed should be considered as criminals not the ones...

SECURITY

Image
According to the Oxford Dictionary, security means    the activities involved in protecting a country, building or person against attack, danger, etc.  When we think of the word security, we usually think about being secure from being physically hurt by someone. But is that all? Does security conclude there only? No, security is actually the state of being sure, being sure that you are not going to be hurt by anyone mentally or physically, being sure that you are going to get all the 3 meals today. There can be many types of securities. Food Security - Being sure that you are going to get adequate food with proper nutritional values. Emotional Security - Being sure that you have someone, with whom you can share your feelings, who is always there to back you up, who is always going to be there with you. Shelter Security - Being sure that you have a roof to live under, even when you don't have a job you have a house to live in, you don't have to go around in search o...

IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE DURING PANDEMIC

COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in our day to day lives. It has impacted various sectors out of which education was ramified the most. Teachers and students were not able to go to their schools and colleges, making it very intricate for the teachers to teach the students. But, because of the development of our technology, it did not take much time for schools and colleges to start the teaching online on various internet platforms like Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Zoom and many more. As difficult as it was for the students to understand the vital concepts online, it is perhaps more complex for the teachers to teach online.  A new pedagogy of teaching was introduced, PowerPoint Presentations, Recordings and many other ways of teaching were started to be used. As essential as the internet is for online teaching, it is also a significant barrier between the teacher and students. When such a big portion of the country is using the internet, the connection becomes weak a...

BULLYING AND HOW TO STOP IT

Bullying is the use of force or threat, to abuse or aggressively dominate or intimidate anyone. According to a survey conducted by the IMRB (Indian Market Research Bureau) and the ParentCircle , a lmost one in every three students in India has reported for being bullied  by their peers at  school at least once, every year . This means that almost 33% of the students under the age of 18 have been bullied, and sadly one out of every three children bullied commits suicide. It can take various forms from Verbal Bullying (name calling and teasing) to Physical Bullying (hitting) and from Cyber Bullying to Emotional Bullying (hurtful gestures and exclusions from classes and canteens because of their caste, religion, class and gender). Children with common traits make a group and target children who do not share those traits or can easily be bullied. The children are bullied for being poor, dyslexic, teased for being thin and weak and sometimes just because the bully w...
